My Favorite Small Businesses around Downtown Winston-Salem

When it comes to food, I’m pretty sure it is always in the back of my mind, so this list of my favorite small businesses around town, miiiight end up being a little food heavy.  I have some really good gems for you, and most of them are off of Trade Street downtown Winston-Salem. Which means, yes, you can spend the day hopping around these small businesses! There are SO many to name, so I will just start with ten for now:

Earl’s

Earl’s is a great place to go if you want some good old fashioned Southern comfort food, drinks and live music.  They are all about that down to earth feel, with the best tater tot nachos you’ve ever had! They’re located walking distance from Trade Street, and can be the kick off of your small business hop with some brunch, or the end of your loop in the evening with a little bit of open mic night, or a band.

Bookmarks

This is close to Trade Street in downtown Winston-Salem as well! Lucky you!! Bookmarks is a local non-profit bookstore. You can donate your old books, volunteer, buy books, and help out the community. It’s a great place to stop if you’re just looking for a book to read while sitting in Bailey Park, eating lunch!

The Humblebee Shoppe

If you are looking for flourless, sugarless, dairyless, or anything specific to your diet, the Humblebee Shoppe has it! They also have regular desserts for DAYS. Go check this woman-owned business out if you’re looking for something sweet, delicious and local! They are closer to West End in Winston-Salem, but don’t worry there is a lot to check out over there, too.

Let It Grow Produce

If you are looking for local fruits, veggies, and other groceries, Let It Grow Produce is for you!! They have all kinds of wonderful things, AND you can get seeds or plants for your garden! It is fantastic.

URBN Grl

They have the “cool shit”. Seriously, they do.  URBN Grl has gifts such as candles, rings, cards, NC stickers, water bottles, and the list goes on! They also have clothes, and all the cute hipster vibes your heart could desire.  It is walking distance from Trade Street, and it is a must go!

House of Plants

This local shop was opened by the sweetest couple in 1976, and has become so much more than just a little shop.  House of Plants sell not only plants but also gifts, arrangements, and do all of the florals for weddings as well! You have to check them out!

YAMAS

This place is the best, healthy, Mediterranean food on the go EVER! I routinely order online and pick up on my way through downtown Winston-Salem. You can eat at YAMAS too of course, but the meal is so big, I usually get another meal for leftovers. If you are wanting food in between brewery stops, go try it out. I promise you won’t be disappointed if you love a big bowl of flavor!

Lill Dipper

If you want to go to Bailey Park in the summer for some free yoga in the park or movies in the grass, you can stop by and get some dipped ice cream at the window of Lill Dipper. This ice cream spot is literally a hole in the wall with only a window, and some cute lights strung over top.  My personal favorite is vanilla ice cream dipped in lemon! YUM!

Camino Bakery

Ok, so I had to add a great place to get coffee, because let’s be real, even IF you don’t like coffee (why, I’m not sure), you might like tea (yum), and if you don’t like either, well they have pastries, meals and even loafs of bread that you can buy whole and take home. So it’s a win in my book. The space inside and out of Camino Bakery is super cute to boot! (Add this to your walking/eating/small business supporting loop near Trade Street).

Radar Brewing

If you want a beautiful space to hang out, meet friends or coworkers, and drink good beer…Radar Brewing is your space. They’re newly opened, and have the coolest vibe. Check ‘em out! (PS, they’re real close to Earl’s *hint hint*)

I could keep going and going and going on this list, but here’s a pretty good start for you all!
